Sunday Recovery Rides

Every Sunday @ 9:00 AM we have a ride that starts / finishes at the PURE Austin Quarry Lake parking lot at 4210 W Braker Lane in North Austin.  We encourage all skill and ability levels on this ride so please come out and join us even if you are not familiar with group riding.  This ride is meant to be accommodating for new riders.  The most frequent route head up Jollyville through the neighborhoods to El Salido, Anderson Mill, Lakeline, Crystal Falls, and Parmer.  The group often takes a break at Starbucks on Parmer just past 1431 and then continues back to PURE Austin North. Total distance is 25-30 miles and pace is moderate.  There are a few spots the pace usually becomes spirited but don't be deterred if you aren't a racer because we regroup shortly.

James Murff wins Fredericksburg Cat 3/4 RR 6/28

The course was beautiful and a perfect degree of difficulty. We did two 26 mile loops of bucolic hill country rollers on a narrow road full of cattle guards, low water dips and no-so-bad chip seal.

Erick Benz win University Oaks P123 Criterium May 31 and 45-49 State Championship June 9th
Team at&t-Brain and Spine Cycling’s Erick Benz won the University Oaks P123 Crit on Sunday May 31st, 2009 with a gutsy move with about 5 minutes left to go in the race.  Teammate Sam Childs had set the early pace by attacking from the gun and driving hard enough to establish a decent break of 4-6 riders for about 15 of the 60 minute race.  John Bratton countered on the break’s catch and soon Erick roared to the front and made an attack that that took a group of 6-8 including Cat 3 James Murff into a second break.  With two Team at&t-Brain and Spine teammates in the break Erick attacked the group continuously while sprinter Murff bided his time.  With just over 5 minutes to go the group lulled through the headwind finish line section and Erick made what would turn out to be the winning move. Gaining a precious little 5 second gap Erick held off the charging chase for 3 laps to take the win by a scant 3 seconds.  James Murff took home fifth and Sam Childs was 12th.

CJ Hebert Wins University Oaks Cat 4 Crit Sunday May 10th, 2009

The University Oaks Crit was hot and dry this time.  Much different than my first experience at this San Antonio race when a front left the course cold and wet.  Looking around as we were lining up for the Cat 4 race, I saw several teams who were relatively well represented.  Two San Antonio teams, Chain Reaction and CycleLogics, had three riders each.  UT also had three.  NRC, from Kyle, and ALS-C3, out of Corpus, each had two.  I was a bit concerned that if they worked together, life could be hard for us loners.
